Xinxiang Chemical Fiber Commissions World-First 1,000-ton Ionic Liquid-based Regenerated Cellulose Fiber Project

Xinxiang, China - June 18, 2025: Xinxiang Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. officially launched its 1,000-ton/year ionic liquid-based regenerated cellulose fiber (Xisaier Fiber) project at the Bailu Biobased New Materials Industrial Park in Xinxiang, Henan Province. This landmark project, developed through seven years of collaborative research between Xinxiang Chemical Fiber, the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPE CAS), and Luoyang Changlong New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., marks a revolutionary breakthrough in the regenerated cellulose fiber industry by pioneering a fully green production process.

Unlike traditional viscose fiber production, which relies heavily on strong acids and alkalis and generates substantial waste water, waste gas, and solid waste, the Xisaier Fiber project employs an independently developed green ionic liquid solvent system that efficiently dissolves cellulose. Combined with dry-jet wet spinning technology, the process achieves zero emissions of waste water, gas, and solid waste, with a solvent recovery rate exceeding 99%, according to Xie Yueting, Chief Engineer of Xinxiang Chemical Fiber and Dean of the Bailu New Materials Research Institute.

Nie Yi, a researcher at IPE CAS, emphasized that the successful industrialization of the ionic liquid process represents a major leap in green fiber technology, breaking through a century of traditional chemical spinning methods. Duan Xiaoping, Vice President of the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), hailed the project as a crucial step in the textile industry's green transition and carbon neutrality efforts, noting that it establishes a new benchmark for green technology industrialization and enhances China's global competitiveness in the fiber sector.
Xinxiang Chemical Fiber has secured multiple patents for the core technology and plans to further scale up production to 10,000 tons/year to accelerate market application of this eco-friendly fiber. The Xisaier Fiber, with its excellent performance and environmental advantages, is expected to drive the global trend of green consumption in the textile industry.
